Who knew that this season would be the breakout for me to get some wins in our annual football picks contest?
For the third time this year, I have won the weekly contest! For the fourth week in a row, I was involved in a tiebreaker, only this time I came out on top. And to think, I almost picked the wrong team to win last night’s game. All season long, I’ve had a crush on the Jacksonville Jaguars, only to see them let me down time and again. So in looking at the scheduled game for last night, where the Jags were playing the Houston Texans, I was all set to pick Jacksonville again. Then after some thought, up to and right up to the deadline to submit my picks, I changed my mind. Boy, how lucky I was! In addition, I made up one game in the season to date standings, so if I can keep that up, I still have a chance to win the big prize.
And as for the team that I root for, the Baltimore Ravens, let me say this: if you would have told me at the start of the season that after twelve games the Ravens would be in the mix for a playoff spot, I would have laughed in your face. I must admit that the Ravens have already exceeded expectations, even if they lose all of their remaining games, I would be happy with the progress the team has made. But now that they are playing meaningful games in December, I (and probably other Raven fans) are greedy. We want more. I don’t think the Ravens will win the Super Bowl, but I would love to see them get a chance to try.

Woohoo! Congrats on winning! And without my haiku powers too. Who expected that?
Thanks also for bringing to my attention that it’s December. I know that may sound like an odd thing to say, but months have passed me by and I didn’t even notice. There was Monday night football here in Charlotte last night and I know I heard the word “playoff” but it didn’t register that the season was almost over until I just read your post.
Go Ravens!!
