Back on the 14th of January, hip-hop emcee LL Cool J turned 40 years old. Really!
It’s official now, hip-hop has entered middle age. It can’t do what it used to, but it ain’t dead either. As DaveyWayne knows, there is good hip-hop out there; you just gotta look beyond the usual source (i.e. radio) to find it.
Here follows some of LL’s finest moments:
“Jingling Baby” remix:
“Big Ole Butt” (before Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back”):
“Doin’ It” (lyrics NSFW):
And of course, “Mama Said Knock You Out”:
There are many, many more I could have posted, but I don’t want the post overrun with enough songs for a greatest hits compilation. Happy birthday to “mature” emcee, actor and family man LL Cool J. Here’s to many more.

If only I could get him to stop whining about Jay-Z and stay the hell away from Fiddy…he would be aight.
But Fam, whats up with all the radio cuts?
I see Im going to have to do this correctly.
Youve inspired me…
*Races off to compile his own LL mixtape*
Ok, I admit it. I was lazy and grabbed the easy stuff.
Still, it was hittin’ though. I could have grabbed a whole lotta stuff (and I have many other audio-only cuts I could have dug up).
Let me know what you get on the LL mixtape….
