It appears that I missed some wonderful items while relaxing at the beach. Who knew that our President would pick that week to commute the sentence of a perjurer? You say there was a tennis tournament going on? My favorite baseball team played around .500 ball last week? Really? Well, I did know that much was going on. What I didn’t know was that I could’ve done a link dump to make an easy blog post, and maybe increase traffic to my little corner of the world. (Thanks You Been Blinded and Five Tool Tool, with an assist from MCBias). So here, is version 1.0 of the Mind Pinball linkage (or basically some “good” stuff I found when I returned from vacation:
- 1) Dan Rodricks of the Baltimore Sun worries that the Orioles have done too much losing and that a generation of kids will not have a winning tradition to remember like their parents did.
- 2) Over at The Commission, Da Realist & Co. take us back to 1990 (or in his case 9th grade). He reminds us of the shooting star that was Vanilla Ice (and yeah, I liked that song too); but also adds good stuff from Michel’le, DJ Quik, Ice Cube, LL Cool J and Suzanne Vega (Suzanne Vega?!?, naw I ain’t hatin’-I liked that one too).
- 3) At Moderately Cerebral Bias, MC Bias (him again?) compares sitcom characters to NBA Draft prospects.
- 4) DP aka DaveyWayne at Parrish: The Thoughts is breaking down ESPN’s latest brainstorm (brain cramp?), Who’s Now (several posts done already, hopefully more upcoming).
- 5) Lord have mercy, I found some hip-hop songs to prove that Ludacris was right about content in hip-hop! Dance crazes and hits abound!
- Example 1 from Jason Fox and the Hood Presidents “Aunt Jackie”:
- Example 2 from Down aka Kilo “Lean Like A Cholo”:
- Example 3: (thanks to A Hot Mess!) “Soulja Boy”: “Superman that hoe!”(?!?)
- And finally Example 4: (thanks to Walk Taken! for this one “Pull On My Weave” (NSFW) by Phoenix The FireStarter. Excellent examples, all. Content is alive and well, don’cha think?
- 6) The Undercover Black Man has a post about “Giant Negroes.” No, not the ones that get PAID for those hoop skills. Violent, insane, giant Negroes. I didn’t know whether to laugh or be sad about how Negroes were viewed during that time. The post itself brought out both emotions. More to come…

Its funny how no one has a problem with Beyonce saying “Pat your weave, Pat your weave” and Missy saying “I gotta fix my weave” yet this girl says “pull on my weave” and now we have hit an all time low?? At the end of the day you cant knock anyones hustle. I googled the song and found the myspace page for it since the link above is broken.

Tony,
Thanks for your comment. I’m not sure that I was implying that her song was an all-time low; just that the accumulation of those types of songs don’t offset one “Runaway Love” when it comes to content in hip-hop.
